Coordinate data for navigational use To the east of Cornwall the rolling landscape of Devon rears up and disappears into the sullen granite mass of Dartmoor, an almost circular expanse of bog, heather and bracken, punctuated by granite tors and incised by the rivers that radiate from its centre. Its 368 square miles of moorland contain some of England's finest wilderness. These hills are notoriously difficult to navigate between, especially in bad weather. The table below is a non-exhausted list of Dartmoor's tors, hills and other key features that may be used as waypoints for navigation purposes. Do not rely solely on GPS for navigation and always carry a map and compass.

Whether it’s the “Showboat” song “Ole Man River” about the Mississippi, which ‘just keeps rolling along’ regardless of the struggles of the black slaves, or my near-death experience canoeing as a teenager, rivers have always held a deep fascination for me. Any walk I do has to include a river of some kind. My favourite river walk isn’t as well known as the Mississippi, but as far as I am concerned, it is equal in majesty.
